Do You Really Need 8 hours of Sleep?

Posted June 20th, 2022 in mattress collection, Top Mattress Brands by coreyconsulting

If you ask a random person on the street how many hours of sleep they believe they should get per night, they will almost always say eight. But where did this gold standard come from in the first place? And is this even true?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), once you’ve beyond the teenage years, you need “7 or more” hours of sleep per night. Once you reach the age of 61, they change their recommendation to 7 to 9 hours. However, the CDC emphasizes that this is not a one-size-fits-all recommendation. According to their advice, you should not only consider the length of your sleep, but also the quality of your sleep. They advise that waking up frequently during the night and snoring or gasping for air are symptoms of poor sleep quality.

If you don’t have a sleep issue, it’s likely that you just have poor sleep hygiene. The CDC suggests the following steps to enhance your sleeping habits:

  • The importance of consistency cannot be overstated. Put yourself to bed and get up at the same times every night and every morning, including weekends.
  • Make sure your bedroom is tranquil, dark, and cozy.
  • All electrical gadgets, including televisions, computers, and cellphones, should be removed from the bedroom.
  • Avoid heavy meals, caffeine, and alcohol before going to bed.
  • Make a concerted attempt to get some exercise. Physical activity during the day can help you sleep better at night.

A consistent sleep pattern suggests that a person is concerned about other aspects of their physical health. According to the CDC, people who receive the proper amount of sleep are less likely to get sick, have an easier time maintaining a healthy weight, have less stress and a better mood, and think more clearly (thus doing better at work and school).

Is Your Mattress Getting Too Hot at Night? Consider a Hästens Mattress

Posted June 8th, 2022 in Hästens mattress, luxury mattress by coreyconsulting

During the summer, you may notice that your mattress gets warm. Given the rising temperatures, this is to be expected. Therefore, it’s not uncommon for people to be concerned about a warm mattress during the summer months. Unfortunately, hot mattresses can ruin a good night’s sleep more than anything else.

Some types of mattresses retain a great deal of heat, causing users to experience night sweats and restless, sleepless evenings. However, factors such as bedding, room temperature, and individual metabolisms can contribute to heated sleep. For instance, a heated room is likely to induce nighttime perspiration. The same holds true for non-breathable bedding.

Summer isn’t the only thing that makes sleeping hot uncomfortable. During the sleep cycle, the human body passes through several stages. During the night, your body eventually loses its ability to sweat, resulting in an increase in body temperature. What feels nice at 9 p.m. may seem excessively warm at 3 a.m. in this situation.

Whether you sleep hot or cold, a Hästens mattress provides the optimum blend of support and comfort, as well as the ability to regulate your body temperature while sleeping. Each natural material utilized in their mattresses has specific advantages, such as pocket springs, which allow air to travel through the entire bed to promote a healthy sleeping environment. These natural substances, when combined, contribute to a comfortable night’s sleep.

Don’t let your mattress keep you awake another night. Learn more about how a luxury mattress can help you sleep better by visiting Brickell Mattress online or in-store.

4 Easy Methods to Falling Asleep ASAP

Posted May 23rd, 2022 in Mattress Brands, mattress collection by coreyconsulting

A good night’s sleep is crucial. It improves your mood and allows your body and mind to function properly. Some individuals have no difficulty falling asleep, while many others have a hard time falling asleep and remaining asleep all night. If you find yourself in the latter category, here are four easy methods for falling asleep as quickly as possible.

Don’t Overthink It

It may seem paradoxical, but if you want to fall asleep quickly, you should stop thinking about it. You might become anxious if you’re having trouble sleeping, which is not an ideal state for getting a good night’s sleep.

Maintain a Consistent Routine

Even on weekends when you don’t have to get up early, sticking to a regular sleep schedule is a good way to ensure you get enough sleep. Keeping your internal clock on a regular schedule can be as simple as waking up and going to bed at the same time each day.

Be Conscious of How You Use Screens

Laptops, tablets, televisions, and cell phones are all displays, and spending time in front of them might disrupt your sleep. Putting your devices away an hour or two before bedtime will assist you in beginning to relax.

Avoid Taking Naps

While short-duration naps have been related to increased alertness and well-being, perspectives on the impact of napping on nighttime sleep are divided. According to several studies, taking long (at least 2 hours) and late naps on a regular basis might contribute to poor nighttime sleep quality and even sleep deprivation.

Hästens Presents a New Bed in Celebration of Its 170th Anniversary

Posted May 18th, 2022 in Hästens mattress, luxury mattress by coreyconsulting

Dubbed the “drēmər” by the family-owned Swedish company, the exclusive new model was inspired by the power of the human mind and the infinite possibilities of manifestation. The drēmər is a tribute to Hästens founder Pehr Adolf Janson and the six generations of “dreamers” who helped establish the company as a luxury brand.

The drēmər was designed by the world-renowned interior designer Ferris Rafauli, who also designed the Grand Vividus model. The luxurious bed, like its predecessors, took more than 300 hours to create in the company’s state-of-the-art facility in Köping, Sweden.

Meanwhile, the bed’s foundation is made of the company’s signature blend of cotton, wool, flax, and horsehair. The latter was chosen because it provides natural airflow to keep you cool while you sleep. Rafauli also employed polished leather and metal, both of which are common in saddle construction.

Rafauli outfitted the bed with a signature woven checkerboard cloth based on the brand’s horse monogram, paying tribute to Hästens’ past as expert saddle builders. It’s similar to the fabric used on the Grand Vividus and comes in the same four colors (Traditional Blue, Black Shadow, Natural Shale and Phantom Charcoal). The wonderfully handcrafted velvet headboard, which comes complete with elaborate piping and a striking color to accent the checkered fabric, is what sets the drēmər apart from the Grand Vividus and others. The bed also features a set of elegant lacquered wood legs available in black and blue that were made particularly for the drēmər.

The drēmər, like other Hästens mattresses, may be tailored to fit your body composition, temperature preferences, and firmness preferences. It comes in all of the regular sizes, but it can also be customized to your desired length and width. To top it off, the mattress can be serviced by one of the brand’s unique “bed massagers” as needed to keep it in peak condition.

Obesity and Sleep Deprivation: What’s the Connection?

Posted May 9th, 2022 in mattress collection, Top Mattress Brands by coreyconsulting

The conventional belief used to be that your weight is solely influenced by your diet and amount of activity. However, we now know that body weight is more than just a result of behavior. Weight is influenced by genetics, socioeconomic position, community environment, stress and your overall health. Additionally, the quality of your sleep has an effect on weight gain, as sleep deprivation is a risk factor for obesity.

Sleep deprivation, as well as poor sleep quality, can have a substantial impact on your weight. Sleep deprivation has been linked to weight gain due to a number of detrimental changes in your body that would not occur if you had enough sleep each night. Two of these shifts have to do with how your body manages hormones and appetite.

When you don’t get enough sleep, your body produces less leptin, a hormone that helps you lose weight by suppressing your appetite and encouraging your body to burn calories. It also stimulates ghrelin production, popularly known as the “hunger hormone.” Sleep deprivation, as well as too much sleep, can modify your appetite and make fatty, high-calorie junk food more appealing, causing you to consume more calories than usual.

Sleep deprivation also causes the body to gain weight; one interesting study found that individuals gained an average of 2 pounds over the course of seven nights of 5 hours of sleep or less. The researchers also discovered that staying up late changed the eating patterns of the participants in the study, causing them to eat less healthful food.

If you’re concerned about your waistline, it’s critical that you get enough sleep each night.

Vispring’s Guide to Sleeping Happily Ever After

Posted May 2nd, 2022 in luxury mattress, Vi-Spring by coreyconsulting

Buying a new bed isn’t something you should rush into because there’s so much to think about before you make a decision. Vispring’s sleep professionals have compiled a wealth of information to help you in making an informed decision. Here’s a compiled list of helpful tips.

Don’t Buy Before You Try

It takes time to find the optimal degree of support and cushioning. It’s always a good idea to test each bed for at least 10 minutes by lying down in your preferred sleeping position and turning over a few times. If you share a bed with someone, make sure you’re both present while the test is conducted. Vispring mattresses offer varying spring tensions, fillings and sizes. Try a few different ones to see which one is the best fit for you. You spend a third of your life in bed, so take your time choosing the right one.

Consider Your Sleeping Style

Understanding the postures our bodies take when sleeping is important because it helps you choose the right tension, spring count and fillings. If you share a bed with a partner, you should consider sleep type compatibility as well; a split tension mattress, for example, may provide a more restful night’s sleep for both of you.

Choosing the Right Tension

Vispring offers four different mattress tensions: soft, medium, firm and extra firm. It’s important to toss off any preconceived notions that a firm mattress is always the best, because this is just not true. Tension is, of course, a matter of personal preference, but the professionals at Vispring always recommend that you evaluate your body weight first. To avoid aches and pains caused by sleeping on the wrong mattress tension, proper spinal alignment is required.

Don’t wait another night to feel the difference of a Vispring bed. Visit Brickell Mattress online or in-store today to learn more about how a luxury mattress can help improve your sleep.

Here’s How Lack of Sleep Can Make You Feel Older

Posted April 28th, 2022 in mattress collection, Top Mattress Brands by coreyconsulting

Poor sleep quality has been associated with more negative attitudes about aging, such as feeling older and having a worse outlook on aging.  According to sleep experts, not only does poor sleep make you feel more pessimistic about aging, but it can also harm your health. At night, humans cycle between N1, N2 and N3 stages of rapid eye movement (REM) and non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep. These processes and stages of sleep are critical for restoring, recovering from illness, repairing our bodies, consolidating memories and regulating our emotions.

During NREM N3, for example, growth hormones are produced. These hormones are in charge of blood vessel repair. This is critical because even minor blood vessel breaks can lead to plaque buildup and, ultimately, a heart attack or stroke. Sleep deprivation also affects the brain’s connectivity between the amygdala and the prefrontal cortex. When people do not get enough sleep, their ability to process information is harmed.

While poor sleep can have an impact on your health and how you feel about growing older, there are a number of ways to improve your sleep quality. For sleep tips, visit our blog to help improve your sleep.

4 Tips for a Better Night’s Sleep

Posted April 11th, 2022 in luxury mattress, Top Mattress Brands by coreyconsulting

Sleep is crucial to your overall health and well-being. If you’re tired all the time, can’t concentrate or are grumpy for no apparent reason, it’s possible that your sleeping habits are to blame. If you want to sleep and feel better, here are four simple tips for getting a good night’s sleep.

Stick to a Routine

Going to bed and waking up at the same time every day helps your body develop a routine, making it simpler to fall asleep and wake up. Maintain a constant regimen so that your body recognizes the pattern.

Consume a Well-Balanced Diet

When and what we eat have a significant impact on our bodies’ ability to both energize and rest. Making a meal plan can make eating healthy more manageable and less stressful. Eating a variety of well-balanced foods helps us feel our best while also ensuring that we are getting the nutrients our bodies require to maintain consistent energy levels throughout the day. Avoiding big meals before bed, cutting back on coffee after lunchtime and avoiding alcohol can all help you get a better night’s sleep.

Keep Technology to a Minimum

Studies have demonstrated that strong artificial light disrupts brain function and changes hormones associated with sleep. Most smartphones emit artificial “blue light,” which interferes with our bodies’ generation of melatonin, a sleep-inducing hormone. To help your body wind down and prepare for bed, turn off all electronic devices two to three hours before night.

Make Use of Relaxing Techniques

Many people have difficulty “turning off” their minds at night. It can help you fall and remain asleep if you take some time before bed to empty your mind and unwind. Experiment with various soothing activities such as meditation, journaling or even a warm bath.

If you’re still having trouble getting a decent night’s sleep after following these suggestions, it might be time to invest in a new luxury mattress

Celebrate World Sleep Day with Better Sleep Hygiene

Posted March 28th, 2022 in mattress collection, Top Mattress Brands by coreyconsulting

World Sleep Day is not, despite popular belief, a day dedicated solely to the act of dozing off. Instead, it’s a day dedicated to raising awareness about the value and importance of sleep.

Paying attention to sleep hygiene is one of the simplest ways to set yourself up for better sleep. A sleeping environment as well as everyday activities that promote regular, uninterrupted sleep are all part of good sleep hygiene. Additionally, having a consistent sleep schedule, a comfortable and distraction-free bedroom, a soothing pre-bed ritual and developing healthy behaviors during the day, can all help you achieve optimal sleep hygiene.

Regardless of one’s personal preferences, each person can customize his or her sleep habits to fit his or her own preferences. Developing good sleep patterns can help you get a good night’s rest and wake up feeling relaxed the next day. A good night’s sleep can also be encouraged by a comfortable bedroom atmosphere. The basic principle of sleep hygiene applies to almost everyone, yet what constitutes optimum sleep hygiene varies from person to person. As a result, testing with various adjustments to see what works best for you is recommended.

Additionally, it’s critical to understand that improving one’s sleep hygiene does not necessarily address sleeping disorders. Individuals who suffer from severe insomnia or sleep disorders, such as sleep apnea, may benefit from improved sleep hygiene, but further treatments are often required.
